Mentorship

I am a dedicated mentor of young scientists and for my efforts I was the 2011-2012 recipient of the UC Davis College of Biological Sciences Dean’s Mentorship Award (see picture below with former mentee Pamela James, who is currently a registered nurse at Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital in Palo Alto, California) . I have advised both undergraduates and high school students and their contributions have been recognized through authorship on five separate publications. I always encourage my mentees to present their findings at national scientific conferences and undergraduate research symposia. The most rewarding aspect of mentoring students has been helping them mature into young scientists and advising them as they reach graduation and decide upon their own future careers.
